For the L.A. premiere of ‘Barbie,’ renowned celebrity makeup artist Diana Shin drew inspiration from the timeless allure of vintage fashion. Creating a stunning ’60s-inspired makeup look for Shay Mitchell, Shin perfectly complemented the star’s modern vintage hairstyle and the overall vintage-inspired dress.
Speaking to InStyle, Shin revealed, “[The] inspiration of today’s makeup looks come from a vintage Barbie girl. The monochromatic face with bold eyeliner pairs seamlessly with her modern vintage ’60s hair and her vintage-inspired dress.”
As of late, Shay Mitchell has fully embraced the Barbie theme, even launching a successful Béis x Barbie collaboration that fans adore. So it was no surprise to see the multi-talented entrepreneur and actor walk the pink carpet, exuding Barbie’s essence with her long black hair cascading down her back, held in place by a thick headband, and boasting radiant skin with perfectly winged eyeliner.
Shin expressed her delight in working with Mitchell, especially when it comes to makeup. She shared, “Shay is very involved in the makeup process. She loves makeup and knows what she likes. The best part of working with Shay is that she is very creative and is open to trying new looks.”
To achieve this captivating “vintage” look, Shin began by giving Mitchell a natural-looking bronzed glow. Utilizing the Nudestix Tinted Blur Foundation Stick in Deep 9, she defined Mitchell’s cheekbones, and the Nudies Matte Bronze in “Sunkissed” added that radiant effect of having just returned from a fabulous tropical vacation. To infuse color into the look, she applied Juicy Cheeks, a forthcoming product set to launch in August, for Mitchell’s blush.
For the eyes, Shin used the Nude Earth Eye Palette in Hot Stone and Gbaby as a neutral base, and then she skillfully crafted a bold winged liner along the top lash line, complemented by big voluminous lashes to make Mitchell’s eyes truly pop. Emphasizing how Barbie serves as an endless source of glamour inspiration, Shin shared, “My favorite Barbie looks involve a lot of bright colors on the eyes, rosy cheeks, and a glowy complexion.”
